Micro Weddings: A Celebration of Love, Not Logistics

Micro Weddings: A Celebration of Love, Not Logistics

Why a micro wedding?

In order to answer this question, we spoke to a true wedding expert. Kylie McIntosh has been a wedding celebrant for 8 years and has been involved in the wedding industry for 24, so she knows what she is talking about when it comes to why more and more couples are choosing a micro wedding.

“Now that 'Micro' weddings are a thing … couples can appreciate how having a wedding with fewer guests … is where it's at. … They spend more time on the wedding day with the people they love the most. Their budgets may be the same but with smaller guest numbers, they can choose to spend their money on what really matters to them.”

What are the pros of having a micro wedding?

There are plenty of reasons why a micro wedding can be just as special, if not more so, than one with a massive guest list. Here are some of our top reasons why you should consider it.

Be with those that mean the most

By reducing your guest list with a micro wedding, you can really focus on inviting those who truly mean the most to you. This can make your special day feel all the more special, and provide more intimate moments. Gone is the stress of having to flit from table to table and instead quality time with loved ones takes its place.

More planning freedom

Having fewer guests to cater to allows you to get creative with your big day. Venues that may have previously been off of the table due to their accessibility, size, or even budget suddenly become possible. As everything is on a much smaller scale, personalising details like the ceremony, decorations, food, and wedding favours becomes much easier for you to make truly bespoke.

Lessen the logistics headache

While it can be truly lovely having so many people there with you on your wedding day, the more guests that you have, the more factors will need to go into the planning and logistics of it. For example, with a destination wedding, there might be those who can’t make it, entire families with little ones to cater for can prove challenging, as well as getting everyone from A to B if your ceremony and reception are in different venues can be a headache. A micro wedding with a limited guest list means you only need to look out for a handful, rather than scores of people.

An unforgettable wedding

A micro wedding can lead to truly unforgettable experiences, not only in terms of the venue or activities included as part of the big day but also by providing fewer distractions and an intimate setting. This helps shared moments to be much more powerful, so you and your guests can remember them for countless years to come.

More focus on the happy couple

While we all know that weddings are a celebration of two people coming together, there is something about a micro wedding that really helps to bring this to the forefront. It helps couples to be able to focus on their commitment to each other, rather than worrying about any external factors like guest experience, helping their vows to become much more authentic about themselves and their values.

Budget-friendly

Micro weddings allow you to be able to use your wedding funds much more flexibly. The initial and most obvious bonus is that the fewer guests there are, the more money you will save, but that doesn’t mean that they are just reserved for those looking for a frugal ceremony. Instead, the funds can be spent to enhance the experience for those that you truly wish to be there, allowing you to put more focus on them, as well as potentially being able to afford more luxuries in your planning, such as a more exclusive venue or gourmet-quality food.

What if a micro wedding isn’t right for me?

You might like the philosophy behind a micro wedding, but it might just not be the kind of wedding for you. If that is the case, then don't worry! There are ways to incorporate some of the key ideas behind micro weddings into your wedding planning.

For example, in lieu of hen and buck parties, you could plan a special gathering of close friends and family to celebrate. By pooling together the funds from both of these events, you can choose to have a party that is truly special, like on a yacht or at an expensive restaurant. Really though, the choice is up to you!

Micro wedding ideas

If you are considering a micro wedding for your big day, here are some ideas to get you started that truly show how magical they can be.

The destination wedding of your dreams

Fewer guests means almost no destinations are off-limits. Choose a location or country that is perfect for you, from renting out a mansion for you and your guests, to a beachside wedding on the Gold Coast. Wine lovers might want to exchange vows in a vineyard, and enjoy its produce afterwards! Alternatively, why stay in one place when you could charter a luxury yacht like the Texas T to take you through stunning waters like the Whitsundays? With room for 34 people on board, it’s perfect for a micro wedding, and you could even continue the journey once your guests disembark as your honeymoon!

Something unique

Some locations can seem too small to hold a wedding at, even if they may hold special significance for the happy couple. By limiting guests and holding a micro wedding, you can choose to share your vows in truly unique places. Ever wanted to get married on a rooftop, in a museum or art gallery, or maybe even bungee jump after your first kiss? A micro wedding can make this all the more possible.

That personal touch

Create personalised wedding favours for each of your guests, and have more freedom with your budget to truly tailor things to you. Get a live band to play your favourite songs, cater your favourite foods, and create table seating arrangements that suit your sentiments rather than catering to family politics!

And so much more!

The choices you can make when planning your micro-wedding are endless, and these suggestions are just to get your creativity going! We’re sure you’ll create the perfect ceremony and reception for you and your loved ones.
